Getting into Gloamwood at level 45
Reaching level 45 opens Gloamwood through the Mourners' Cut past the Quiet Acre. Until level 45, mist blocks entry. Once unlocked, you descend the Lantern Stair into an isolated valley holding 44 mushroom species.
The valley contains thirteen subplaces, including The Mourners' Cut, The Waystation, Barrow Downs, The Bellwood, Stillmere, and The Weeping Hollow. Two villagers reside here: the Gravekeeper and the Weigher.
The valley outpost is The Waystation, which sells late-game gear. Track NPC objectives on /quests, and map progression on /leveling.
New rarities and the knives that cut them

The Rootways at level 60
At level 60, you enter The Rootways through the well in Fernhollow Village square. The bucket lowers you to the Wellspring.
The Rootways is a subterranean maze of 34 mushroom species across twelve underground areas, including The Wellspring, Lamp & Chalk, The Rootmaze, The Great Geode, The Hall of Light, and The Rootheart Temple. Odo runs the Lamp & Chalk shop near the Wellspring.
Two core rules define The Rootways:
- Rootbound mushrooms: Several species grow straight from living roots, including Glyphcap ($36,000), Heartring ($34,500), Mapmaker's Conk ($480), Nookhen ($1,300), and Seedlight ($510,000). Rootbound kinds require a Rootways knife, such as the Glimmerstone Knife or Humstone Knife. Surface knives cannot harvest them.
- Underground conditions: Caverns are sheltered from weather. Rain and fog never reach underground, meaning weather mutations do not occur. The Rootways features its own exclusive mutation: Murmuring (x5.0 multiplier).
Gear and coins you should bring
Before entering these zones, prepare across three areas:
- Lantern Sense: Dark caverns hide rare spawns. High Sense ratings reveal deep nodes.
- Backpack Capacity: Late-game mushrooms sell for high sums. Upgraded packs prevent constant return trips to sell.
- Coin Reserves: Knives cost $1,200,000 to $1,800,000, while packs cost $250,000 to $700,000.
