Mushrooming Money Guide

Checked

Coins per hour = base price x age x cut x dirt x mutation x how many you can carry, so a bigger basket and a cleaner cut beat a longer walk every time.

What actually multiplies your coins

Every mushroom sale uses a simple formula: Base Price multiplied by Age, Cut Grade, Dirt State, and Mutation. Missing any multiplier cuts your earnings.

Age determines quality at harvest. Fresh mushrooms give a 1.25x bonus. Young mushrooms sell at 0.9x. Caps left sitting degrade into Old at 0.65x, and Rotten caps collapse to 0.3x.

Cut grade reflects timing on the cutting meter. Hitting the gold zone yields Pristine at 1.3x. Green gives Clean at 1.0x. Missing drops payout to Scuffed (0.8x), Bruised (0.6x), or Mangled (0.35x).

Dirt state applies to soil caps. Washed caps receive a 1.05x bonus. Dusty caps sell at 0.85x, and muddy ones drop to 0.6x.

Mutations stack on top. Dewy at dawn gives 1.4x, Shaded under canopies gives 1.6x, and Luminous at night provides 1.8x. Rare roll mutations deliver larger spikes: Golden awards 3x, Crystal gives 4x, and Prismatic or Spectral grant 8x. A Fresh, Pristine, Washed mushroom with a Prismatic roll sells for 1.25 x 1.3 x 1.05 x 8, which is over 13.6 times base price.

The best-paying mushrooms your knife can cut

Base prices scale across nine rarity tiers. Unlocking a higher knife raises your ceiling, but only if you hit clean cuts.

Rarity Base Price Range Sample Species Knife Needed
Common $4 – $65 Button Mushroom ($4), Birch Polypore ($7), Cellar Bonnet ($45) Starter Rusty Knife
Uncommon $16 – $170 Amethyst Deceiver ($30), Ashen Shelf ($125), Barrowtongue ($155) Starter Rusty Knife
Rare $60 – $520 Black Trumpet ($90), Cauldron Cap ($105), Bellwort ($415) Pocket Knife ($300)
Epic $220 – $1,950 Azure Glowcap ($320), Beamfoot ($1,300), Ambertear ($1,950) Bone Knife ($6,000)
Legendary $1,200 – $9,600 Caesar's Mushroom ($1,450), Barrowstar ($6,250), Bloomshade ($9,600) Mycologist's Scalpel ($39,000)
Mythic $7,800 – $36,500 Elder Cap ($7,800), Echo Bell ($11,000), Candlecoral ($36,500) Moonsilver Blade ($120,000)
Secret $52,000 – $195,000 Glowfoot ($58,500), Heart of the Forest ($65,000), Bramblecrown ($130,000) Sporebloom Knife ($310,000)
Celestial $155,000 – $510,000 Hallowroot ($155,000), Chimecap ($210,000), Fogweave ($245,000) Willowglass Knife ($1,400,000)
Ancestral $520,000 – $1,260,000 Firstlight ($520,000), Oldvoice ($1,260,000) A blade nobody sells

A Pristine cut on an Uncommon Barrowtongue ($155 x 1.3 = $201) beats a Mangled cut on a Rare Bellwort ($415 x 0.35 = $145). Do not chase higher rarities until your knife precision lets you hit gold reliably.

Kinds worth waiting for and kinds to skip

Maximizing coins per hour requires filtering what stays in your bag.

Wait for time and weather mutations. At dawn, look for Dewy (1.4x). At night, collect Luminous (1.8x) or Shadow (3.5x). Rain gives Soaked (1.3x). Lightning charges Thunderstruck caps to 4x. Rare rolls like Golden (3x) and Prismatic (8x) are always worth holding.

Skip caps with heavy penalties. Rotten caps (0.3x) waste space. If a cheap cap gets Mangled (0.35x) and muddy (0.6x), its value drops under a single coin. Drop degraded low-tier caps when near full capacity to save room for Fresh finds.

A repeatable one-hour run

A reliable farming session balances picking speed against travel.

Start in Birch Meadow for levels 1 to 4. Forage along Birch Knoll, Fairy Ring, and Sunstone Circle until your 25-slot Canvas Sack fills. Head to Fernhollow basin, wash muddy caps, and sell to the Merchant. A full 25-slot run of washed Commons and Uncommons yields a rough estimate of several hundred coins. Repeating this loop four times funds your early gear.

At level 5, pay $1,500 at the Toll Bridge for Amber Glade, Mossy Hollow, and Pinewood Ridge. Equip the 40-slot Leather Satchel and Pocket Knife. Target Rares like Black Trumpet ($90) and Bellwort ($415), and watch for Mossy caps (1.5x) in Mossy Hollow. A full 40-slot haul of washed Rares yields an estimated rough payout in the low thousands per run.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What sells for the most in Mushrooming?

Base price is only part of it. A Fresh mushroom with a Pristine cut and one mutation is worth up to 1.25 x 1.3 x 8 times its base price.

Should I sell everything right away?

No. Carry a bigger backpack, hold the run until you have a basket of Fresh mushrooms and mutations, and sell in one trip.
