Where to Find Mushrooming's Hardest Mushrooms

Checked

Rare kinds are gated by area, time and weather, not by luck alone: Frostcap and Foxfire need their own area and the right hours, and rain kinds only exist while it rains.

Mushrooms players ask about most

Hard-to-find mushrooms do not go missing from bad luck: they spawn in set zones, under exact conditions, or require a sharper knife than the starter blade.

The table lists nine mushrooms players ask about most:

Mushroom Rarity Base price Area Time Knife needed
Foxfire Rare $90 Amber Glade Night only Pocket Knife or better
Frostcap Epic $300 Pinewood Ridge Night only Bone Knife or better
Earthstar Rare $70 Pinewood Ridge Daytime only Pocket Knife or better
Bleeding Tooth Epic $360 Elderdeep Any time Bone Knife or better
Starlight Veil Legendary $2,450 Azure Peak Night only Mycologist's Scalpel or better
Starroot Cap Legendary $7,800 The Rootways Any time Mycologist's Scalpel or better
Starspore Mythic $10,500 Elderdeep, Pinewood Ridge Night only Moonsilver Blade or better
Oldvoice Ancestral $1,260,000 The Rootways Only at dawn A blade nobody sells
Firstlight Ancestral $520,000 Gloamwood Any time A blade nobody sells

Foxfire ($90) and Frostcap ($300) both need night. Foxfire grows in Amber Glade, while Frostcap sits on Pinewood Ridge, needing a Bone Knife. Earthstar ($70) grows on Pinewood Ridge by day, alternating with Frostcap.

Bleeding Tooth ($360) spawns in Elderdeep (35 cataloged species). Starlight Veil ($2,450) sits on Azure Peak at night (Mycologist's Scalpel). Starroot Cap ($7,800) grows in The Rootways (level 60). Starspore ($10,500) is a Mythic night cap across Pinewood Ridge and Elderdeep (Moonsilver Blade). Oldvoice ($1,260,000) spawns at dawn in The Rootways, while Firstlight ($520,000) grows in Gloamwood; both need "A blade nobody sells". Search all 189 species on /mushrooms.

Time-locked kinds: night, dawn and rain

Spawn clocks govern dozens of species: searching during the wrong cycle means the mushroom will not appear.

Night spawners come out after dark:

  • Foxfire (Rare, $90, Amber Glade, Pocket Knife)
  • Frostcap (Epic, $300, Pinewood Ridge, Bone Knife)
  • Ghost Fungus (Rare, $110, Mossy Hollow, Pocket Knife)
  • Devil's Fingers (Epic, $420, Elderdeep, Bone Knife)

Dawn spawners appear only in morning light:

  • Oldvoice (Ancestral, $1,260,000, The Rootways, A blade nobody sells)
  • Seedlight (Celestial, $510,000, The Rootways, Humstone Knife)
  • Waxseal Cap (Secret, $195,000, The Rootways, Sporebloom Knife)

Rain spawners emerge while rain falls:

  • Drizzle Bonnet (Common, $8, Mossy Hollow, Rusty Knife)
  • Inkwell Cap (Uncommon, $32, Amber Glade, Rusty Knife)
  • Mistveil (Epic, $360, Mossy Hollow, Bone Knife)
  • Rainpearl (Celestial, $235,000, Gloamwood, Willowglass Knife)

Fog spawners appear when fog covers the valley:

  • Cloudcap (Uncommon, $170, Gloamwood, Rusty Knife)
  • Palesaddle (Legendary, $9,350, Gloamwood, Mycologist's Scalpel)
  • Fogweave (Celestial, $245,000, Gloamwood, Willowglass Knife)

Area-locked kinds you cannot get early

Starter areas cannot spawn late-game species. Whisperwood gates territory behind tolls, level milestones, lanterns, and discovery totals. See /map for gate paths.

Azure Peak (Level 20, 5 kinds): Skybell ($42), Indigo Milk Cap ($125), Azure Glowcap ($320), Starlight Veil ($2,450).

The Undergrove (Lantern gate, 7 kinds): Pale Cavecap ($14), Dripcap ($45), Cavern Lantern ($140), Crystal Morel ($380).

Elderdeep (35 species, 20 kinds): Bleeding Tooth ($360), Devil's Fingers ($420), Moonlit Morel ($1,950).

Gloamwood (Level 45, 44 kinds): Bellwort ($415), Barrowstar ($6,250), Chimecap ($210,000).

The Rootways (Level 60, 34 kinds): Cellar Bonnet ($45), Beamfoot ($1,300), Starroot Cap ($7,800).

When a kind refuses to spawn

Four mechanics explain why a mushroom fails to appear:

Rarity scaling: Common caps spawn continuously, while rarer kinds appear at low frequencies. A passing player may have taken the node minutes earlier.

Despawn timing: When rain stops or day breaks, weather-locked and night-locked species despawn immediately.

Underground shelter: The Undergrove and The Rootways are sheltered caverns where surface weather never penetrates.

Server hopping: Joining a fresh server places you in an instance with refreshed nodes and an alternate clock. When harvesting high-tier caps, keep cuts steady; review cut grades on /perfect-cut.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Frostcap grow?

Pinewood Ridge, at night only. It is an Epic kind worth $300 base, and you need a Bone Knife or better to cut it.

Why do rare mushrooms never appear for me?

Rarer kinds come up far less often, and some need night, rain, fog or one specific area. Change the time of day and check the weather cycle before you travel.
